Ashes Review: Australians in “Paine” as English batsmen find form
The Ashes are almost upon us! With less than a week to go, it is safe to say that there have been no shortages of controversy leading up to the first test in Brisbane.
I believe this may too some extent, be a blessing in disguise as I am firm on the belief that he is one of finest glovemen in the country. However, considering the recent form of Australia’s batting line-up, taking a specialist wicketkeeper is a high risk especially when the number 6 all-rounder position is under extreme scrutiny. However, I am still confident that Paine is the right selection and that the number 6 position is the real major issue. However, if the Australian top and middle order do not fire I believe that Paine’s position will again be questioned due to his meek batting average of less than 30. Thus I believe that Australia needs to continue to consider options that are outside the box.
In particular, the Australian selection committee has dropped plenty of bombshells leading up to the first test. In particular, the shock selection of wicketkeeper Tim Paine. Having not played test cricket for 7 years and no shield fifties in over 3 years, it is least to say that many people are shocked. More worryingly for Australians, as the English batsmen; Cook, Stoneman, Root and Malan fire for England in tour matches.
