Sri Lanka in shambles as King Kohli's form continues
It is one thing to lose, but it is another to be humiliated. Very dissapointing from Sri Lanka, again as they let India run all over them in the 2nd test. Skipper and man of the match; Virat Kohli compiled his fifth double century as Sri Lanka are continuing to decline as India win the 2nd test match by mammoth innings and 239 runs.
A test match can be lost and so can a series, but it is about being competitive in defeat. And Sri Lanka has not shown that at all. This now registers as Sri Lanka's 9 consecutive defeat without a win at the international level and it does not look like it is going to stop at this level. At this stage, Sri Lanka are lacking someone who can bat the long innings and take the game deep and to the Indian bowlers. But, currently, no one has put their hand up to show some resilience and hope for the team. There is no doubt that the team is immensely talented but there is a lack of discipline and confidence in that dressing room. Sri Lanka certainly has the capacity to put up a fight, as they had shown in beating Pakistan for the first time in the UAE. But a lack of application is not doing them any favours against a very tough opposition.

It is must be acknowledged that the Indian batsmen have completely outclassed the Sri Lankan bowling attack who showed some character in the first test match. With the likes of Murali Vijay, Chetashawar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma each reaching their centuries to allow India to reach a monster total of 6/610 before a declaration. It was a clinical performance by India who have again demonstrated that they are becoming the powerhouse of test cricket as they are not only piling up the runs but also destroying batting lineups. India's bowling display in the second innings completely dismantled the Sri Lankan batsmen who had little answers to the prolific Ravichandran Ashwin who rose to form with a convincing 4/63.
Whilst Sri Lanka are quickly running out of answers, there is still some light at the end of the tunnel. I am in full confidence that they will bounce back in the final test match to hopefully level the series 1-1. But something needs to spark in that dressing room. Someone needs to stand up and take control. I thought that the skipper Dinesh Chandimal showed some character with a fighting 61 to show that there is some hope for the side. But Sri Lanka as a whole need to remain competitive, as confidence is low thus the senior players such as Angelo Mathews needs to find his form to lift a disappointed side at this moment.
I am fully backing Sri Lanka to show something special in the next test match. Hence, let's hope that Sri Lanka can show the talent that they have in the next test match and see some more exciting cricket.
