Spectacular top order collapse restores Australia's dignity
There we have Australia have ended the series drought with a victory in the fourth ODI and yet must I say it was not a convincing effort at all.
Australia began by winning the toss and electing to bowl on a very seaming friendly surface. What Australia have had trouble with is dealing with England's aggression. But with the return of Josh Hazelwood, England was quickly silenced as the tourists were left in shambles at 5/8 with Eoin Morgan and Moeen Ali left to deal with the crisis. In all fairness to the England team, their recovery after that point was absolutely phenomenal. Whilst I felt that Chris Woakes played one of his best innings to date, I believe that Eoin Morgan's approach throughout his innings of 33 was far more crucial in that it allowed the rest of the lower order to build some form of confidence.Morgan's innings of 33 off 61 balls after witnessing a collapse of 5/8, I thought that his continued mindset to put the pressure back on the bowlers and allow the other batsmen to settle was a true captain's effort.

Despite the brilliance of Chris Woakes' 78, I strongly believe that Australia's performance after the 10 over mark was very poor. Particularly after seeing England with no hope of ever being in the game to actually nearly winning it in the end.
England after a failed top order somehow managed to scrap themselves to a somewhat defendable total of 196 before early wickets again troubled Australia. In particular, both David Warner and Steve Smith again failing to make any sort of an impact in this series were again out cheaply. I believe that Australia has always been a good 50 to 60 runs short of every total that they have mustered up simply due to the fact that their main players have not made any runs. In which I direct to Steve Smith and David Warner who have not asserted any authority in this series.

But all credit goes to Travis Head who continues his Australia day heroics with a brilliant 96 to set the foundation for an Australian victory. The incredible intent that he took to the crease despite the wickets falling around him certainly highlighted what a deserving player he is to this Australian side.
Overall, I had mixed feelings about this game. Simply due to the fact that Australia certainly bowled very poorly in the middle overs and allowed England to get past the 100 runs. But with respect to the England players, they bounced back brilliantly and had given themselves a chance to take the game.
The final game of the Gillette ODI series will come to a conclusion at the new Optus Stadium at Perth and is set to be a scorching finale to what has been a fantastic series.
Let's hope for a fantastic day of cricket at the Optus Stadium.
